Craobh Mhaigh Nuad is a branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann located in Maynooth, having been formed in Autumn 2012. Our goal is to bring traditional Irish music, song and dance into as many homes as possible in the North-Kildare area. The branch provides music tuition across a wide range of instruments for both children and adults.
The profile of the Craobh was hugely enhanced by the hosting of Fleadh Laighean / Leinster Fleadh July 2014 in Maynooth, which, by all accounts, was a resounding success for traditional music fans and the wider community. This was followed by successful terms from 2015 through 2019, until the COVID Epidemic put a pause to proceedings. We're returned to lessons in January 2023, and now have more members and range of instruments than ever!
We have regular social activities outside of our tuition including regular sessions for our teachers, pupils and all music lovers in the area. These sessions give musicians the opportunity to play with others of all levels of ability and to experience playing tunes together with other instruments. All are welcome - both branch members and non-members. Keep an eye on twitter (http://twitter.com/CCEMhaighNuad) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/comhaltasmhaighnuad) for times and updates.
Lesson terms start in Jan and Sept, with a break for the summer, so please watch this space and our Social Media Accounts.
We are strong believers that our students enjoy their musical journey by learning and practicing in a fun and enjoyable manner. We learn tunes in both a regular classroom of between 3 and 10 students, but also in a session format, where they can play music with their friends and more experienced musicians.
Our Branch are always visible in the community - St Patrick's Day is always a centre-piece for our presence, but we also are regulars at Christmas time, Culture Night and other community events. Here we are at a St. Patrick's morning Peace and Reconciliation breakfast in the Glen Royal Hotel in Maynooth.
Our branch has appointed a Designated Liaison Person (DLP)to the Committee for matters in relation to Child Protection and Guidelines and Procedures in respect of Branch Involvement with Children/Young persons and Vulnerable Adults.
Committee is elected at our AGM, generally held in October each year.
